Since I was going to be in Germany for a couple of weeks, this opened up a lot of travel opportunities. I was staying in Spangdahlem Air Base and they offered a 1-day trip to London. The only downside to this is that we will be traveling by bus, ferry and bus again before reaching London. Nonetheless, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to check another country off the list so I signed up.
Fast forward to Friday and I was ready to go. I walked over to the bus pick up spot on base. We departed at around 1045 pm and got to Calais France around 3 am where our bus drove onto the Spirit of Great Britain ferry to Dover, England. After a quick passport check in immigrations, we were off.
I was surprised how nice the ferry was complete with lounges, restaurants, bars and even mini casinos. I got something to eat in the food court and after a quick 90 minute ride, we were in England. We then boarded the bus and headed straight to London. Around 830am, the bus dropped as off in Picadilly Circus where I was to meet my cousin for a fun-filled day in London.
My cousin Jacky is born and raised in London so it awesome having such a knowledgeable tour guide for the rest of the day. We took the tube and the famous double-decker buses to get to all the tourist spots in the city. We then met with her fiancee James for dinner in Chinatown before I boarded the bus back to Germany.
Me and Ate Jacky had the chance to catch up while we were exploring the sights and sounds of London. Our first stop was the London Eye followed by a walk to West Minister Abbey and Buckingham Palace. We then headed over to see the Big Ben and the London Bridge. After lunch in the Hard Rock Cafe London (first Hard Rock!), we headed over to the British National Museum where we saw the Rosetta Stone. We then visited the British Gallery where we met up with James. Ate Jacky picked me up some awesome pastries in Chinatown to munch on on the ride back.
All in all, it was awesome touring the city of London with my cousin. The city is very tourist friendly and it is very easy to get around by using the tube and the buses. Me and Rac will definitely have to come back and spend more time here!
I’ll let the pictures do the talking..
