The last part of my European adventure would take me to the City of Lights, Paris!
After a very early shuttle ride from Spangdahlem Air Base to the airport (0500), I quickly checked-in my bag and headed over to the Air France lounge to try to get some more sleep..
After about 2 hours in the lounge it was time for boarding. I managed to get Exit row seats which gave me all the legroom that I needed.
After 1hr 40mins of flying, we arrive at CDG. As I planned to visit the Louvre first, I asked the information desk the best way to get there. Initially the lady told me to just take a taxi but later suggested to take the Roissybus and hoof it from there. I then found the Roissybus ticket machine and after a quick wait, I was off to the Paris Opera. After about an hour, we arrived and after asking around, figured out that I needed to take the Metro to get to the Louvre. I used to hate taking public transportation but I’ve grown to embrace it. Now, I actually look forward to using them as most of the time it is the quickest and most expensive way to city the city. A quick 10 minute ride and once I exited the Metro, I saw this.
I walked some more and eventually found the entrance. Since I had limited time in the city and the lines were long, I figured that I should just save going inside for another visit.
After a quick snack at a Japanese resto outside the Louvre (I know, pretty random), I took the Metro and headed over to see the Eiffel Tower.
Same with the Louvre, there was a long line to try and get up the tower. I tried to get tickets online in advance but the tickets were already sold out over a month out!
There was a bunch of shops lined up in the foot of the tower and I decided to check it out.
Grabbed a quick snack before heading back to the Roissybus.
Took the Metro and got back to Paris Opera where I bought a return trip to the airport for 10 euros. I highly recommend using the Roissybus as it is a quick and inexpensive way to get into the center of Paris. Once there, the metro system is very comprehensive and will take you almost anywhere.
Got a glimpse of the Academie National De Musique before boarding the bus.
Got some much needed sleep in the bus and soon enough, I was at the airport. After security, settled in the CDG Air France lounge.
Soon enough it was time to board. All in all, it was a great 3 weeks experiencing the sights and sounds of Europe! This trip was fairly inexpensive as I took advantage of stopovers to see more cities in one plane ticket. A tip to inexperienced travelers, most of the time, you can add additional destinations especially stopovers of less than 24 hours and tickets will usually price out the same!
