Roadtrip: Pisa and Florence, Italy.

Since we had some time off during the holiday season, myself and Rac along with three of our friends decided to go on a mini-roadtrip to Florence, Italy. Since Florence was only 45 minutes away from Pisa and the famous Leaning Tower, we decided to tack it on the trip. During the past six months being stationed here in Italy, we have visited, Venice, Milan, Rome, Amalfi, Capri, Pompeii among other great Italian cities. Everyone who I’ve talked to has said nothing but great things about Florence so it was long due to explore all the city had to offer.

We were doing the trip with our good friends Mark, Suzette and Aldrin. Suzette managed to book an apartment close to the city center for about 100 euros which was an excellent price compared to the hotels around the same area. Saturday morning came and we were off. We left Aviano around 7am and after a very scenic five-hour drive, we were in Pisa!

My first reaction was that this place was much better seen in person. There was so many other spots to see aside from the Leaning Tower. Here are some pictures:

After about two hours, we decided to continue our road trip and drive to Florence. We got there in about 45 minutes and quickly got settled in our apartment before heading out to the city center.

A quick tip to other travelers, do not bring your car to the city center! It took us about one hour to park our car and walk back to the center of town. If would’ve been much better if we just left it by the apartment and walked or took a taxi/bus to the center.

We decided that our first stop was to see the famous Statue of David. It normally costs around 12 euro to see the statue but we got lucky as entrance was free for that day! After about 30 minutes in line, we were in! The statue was a lot bigger than I thought!

Next up, we decided to explore the city center. There was throngs of people walking, shopping and just enjoying the city. We walked for miles and discovered different parts of the city. We had some pizza and ended our night at the Hark Rock Cafe.

The next day, we checked-out of our apartment to go drive to Michelangelo Square. This tourist attraction had the best view of the city and it certainly did not disappoint. We snapped some photos, grabbed snacks and bought our souvenirs before we headed out to our next destination.
