From Dubai, my travels would take me to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and then to Nairobi Kenya via Ethiopian Airways. Slept most of both flights.

Finally, we landed in Nairobi a little bit after lunch. I headed straight to immigration where I had a pretty interesting dialogue with the immigration officer.

Officer: How long will you be staying in Nairobi?

Me: Hmm, about 12 hours?

Officer: Why?

Me: I wanted to see the Nairobi Safari.

Officer: After that?

Me: Eat at the Carnivore Restaurant.

Officer? After that?

Me: Probably go back to airport.

Officer: Enjoy your stay.

I paid my $20 transit visa fee and after clearing immigrations, I headed straight to the travel agencies outside. After some haggling, I booked a private car with driver/guide to tour me all over the city for $110.

My driver Vincent drove me to our first stop, Nairobi National Park. I paid about $60 there to enter the safari.

The inside of the park was beautiful as we saw all kinds of animals. From giraffes, gazelles, buffalos, zebras and other animals, the safari had it all! Too bad we didn’t catch any of the lions and cheetahs though.

After spending about 4 hours in the safari, we headed to the famous Carnivore restaurant where I was meeting Tendai, Rac’s college friend. We enjoyed the various exotic meats that the place had to offer as well as the general feel of the place. We had ostrich, lamb, crocodile and bull’s balls among other things. We ended the night with a shot of King George V. We didn’t even look at the price and was surprised that those two shots were more than our meal! Haha. Lesson learned.

After dinner, we dropped Tendai off at his place as he presented me with a wedding gift for myself and Rac.

Afterwards, Vincent dropped me back at the airport to catch my flight home!

Overall, I had an amazing experience in Nairobi. The city has so much to offer and it was amazing to see all the Safari animals in the middle of the city!
