Continuing with the theme of trying out new airlines and products, I decided to try Malaysian Airlines on my return segments. Now I know what you’re thinking. Most people wouldn’t fly them after everything that happened last year but I don’t dwell on those things. Plus, it was an opportunity to try out another A380 in First Class! I’ve already tried out Korean Air, China Southern and Thai Airways in A380 premium cabins so I was excited to add Malaysian Airlines to the list!
My first flight was Hong Kong-Kuala Lumpur in MH Business Class. The flight was uneventful as I slept most of the way. Here are some pictures of the cabin and the service.
After landing in KL, I headed straight to the Golden Lounge, Malaysian Airline’s flagship lounge in KL. The lounge has two areas, one for Business Class and another one for First Class passengers. I decided to check out both and eventually had dinner at the restaurant in the First Class section.
My overall thoughts, the lounges were nothing special. Just having visited the flagship lounges of Qatar Airways and Cathay Pacific, the Golden Lounge pales in comparison both in service and amenities. Now it is still a nice lounge and a perfect place where one can kill time but it is a notch below other flagship lounges I’ve visited.
Soon enough, it was time to board my most awaited flight of this trip, Kuala Lumpur-Paris on the MH A380!
First things first, here are pictures of the cabin, amenity kit and pajamas. It was worth noting that MH gives a bag to store all the goodies they give you on the flight! I also noticed that even though it was a relatively new plane, the cabin already showed some wear and tear.
There were only 2 other passengers on this 13 ½ hr flight to Paris so the cabin felt extra spacious.
I preordered all my meals thanks to the Chef-on-Call benefit that MH offers its First & Business Class passengers. For dinner, I preordered Lobster Thermidor which was exquisite! To start were some warm nuts, satay & caviar! Yum!
I asked the FA to make my bed on the seat across from me. I slept for a good 6-8 hours on this flight! I also watched several short documentaries and other shows on this flight.
For breakfast, I ordered Giant Prawn Curry which was really good as well!
The FA’s were good and consistent. They were always there when needed and provided good service throughout the flight.
Overall, a solid experience with Malaysian Airlines. Even though I rank them below other Asian carriers like Cathay & Singapore, they still provide a very nice product. Additionally, it was great to visit their flagship lounge and try out their A380!
More importantly, this is an airline that has had a very rough year and it was nice to show my support by flying them. I can only imagine what the company and its employees went through so it was nice to see them back in action and back to doing what they love!
