One for the Road: Marseille & Pisa!

Day seven.

After our Barcelona adventure, we were back in Francia. This time, we were at the second largest city in France after Paris – Marseille.  We stayed at a chic Airbnb not too far from the Old Port.

The first order of the day was a tour of the Old Port. We had lunch at a Vietnamese restaurant, and then we were off to discover more of Marseille.

We entered quite a few souvenir and specialty shops, on the search for Tarot de Marseille. We were only excited to assist Karen in her quest to find these tarot cards since we wanted her to read our “fortune.”

From the port, we could see a majestic church with a gold statue at the highest point of Marseille. We decided not leave for our next destination until reaching the imposing structure.

It didn’t take long for us to drive to the Basilica of Notre-Dame de la Garde. The gold statue was of Madonna and Child. And the hill where the church stands gave us the best views of the city and coast. We took our time admiring the basilica before heading on to our next destination.

Our itinerary should have taken us to Cinque Terre and Verona, Italy, but we could not book a hotel or Airbnb in Cinque Terre. At the last minute, Rambi decided to drive to Pisa, which was the only place my son knew of and wanted to visit in Italia.

By midnight, we were standing in front of the Leaning Tower of Pisa.

We retired at a quirky Airbnb in Pisa. Karen and I stayed up until dawn with sangria and tarot cards.
